Red Chair was thrilled to receive an AIA East Tennessee Honor Award for Cherokee Health Systems Fifth Avenue Clinic at the 2014 design awards yesterday. Elizabeth Gray, the lead juror, described the project as the “definition of doing a lot with a little.”
With the Fifth Avenue Clinic, the client, Cherokee Health Systems, and Red Chair Architects seized the opportunity to dramatically improve a blighted property on Knoxville’s downtown fringe with an outpatient clinic in service of the area’s low-income and homeless populations. A conscious decision was made to salvage as much of the existing building as possible as opposed to depositing it in a landfill.
We are so proud to have this project recognized by the community.
