Design that’s got game, you say? Great design is at the core of Red Chair Architects. Here’s what we mean by that.
For us, design is an attitude: a lens through which we view just about everything. From the broadest perspective there is an element of design in everything we touch. In good design you’ll find an inherent beauty and functionality. But great design? Great design reaches beyond this.
“The difference between good design and great design is intelligence.” —Tibor Kalman
Our work looks for this “intelligence” to not only pay its way in value to our clients, but to be meaningful and memorable. As we approach our work we believe these values are central to each design.
Great design inspires.
“Architecture has to be greater than just architecture. It has to address social values, as well as technical and aesthetic values. On top of that, the one true gift that an architect has is his or her imagination. We take something ordinary and elevate it to something extraordinary.” —Samuel Mockbee
Great design is delivered only in genuine partnership with our clients.
“If you want to push design into new areas, you have to work closely across the boundaries of people’s trades and professions. If you know the questions to ask, you can pull out the expertise.” —Jeanne Gang
Great design is functional and efficient.
“Form ever follows function.” —Louis H. Sullivan
Great design is in the details.
“The details are not the details. They make the design.” —Charles Eames
Great design is good business sense.
“Design is that competitive advantage that sets a company apart in the global market. Within the global economy, the highest performing companies see design as a strategic asset. It becomes the core to their businesses. For those companies, design is more than aesthetics—it’s competitive intellectual property.” —Monika Conway
Great design is responsible to our environment.
“Better buildings, responsible energy use and renewable energy choices are all we need to tackle both energy independence and climate change.” —Ed Mazria
Great design is timeless.
“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” —Frank Gehry
We look forward to working in collaboration with our clients to discover great designs which will be instilled with these values and contribute to our larger community. In turn, our projects will earn the claim – “Design that’s got Game!”
